Youth of MPLA
Juventude do MPLA
- JMPLA is the Youth Wing of the ruling Popular Movement for the
Liberation of Angola (MPLA) in Angola. It is a
mass movement within the MPLA along with
Organização da Mulher Angolana(Angolan Women's Organization), União Nacional dos Trabalhadores Angolanos(National Union of Angolan Workers) and the
Organização de Pioneiros de Agostinho Neto
(Agostinho Neto Pioneer Organisation). Bruce Berry, 17 Aug 2016
MPLA Youth (Juventude do MPLA)
This flag was reported first time in Flaggenmitteilung # 75 as being that
of Angolan Women's Organization (Organização da Mulher Angolana) but this was a mistake. It is in fact the flag of
Juventude do MPLA, the MPLA Youth Wing (JMPLA).
The statutes for the JMPLA were published in m.mpla.ao/jmpla/simbolos/bandeira
(now a broken link) but details and an illustration of the flag of the JMPLA can
be found on the website
of the MPLA.
The symbolism is as follows:
- red is for the liberation struggle and the sacrifices made by the Youth of Angola
- blue represents the Youth
- black represents the continent of Africa
- the rising sun represent the force of the Youth (Representa a Força da Juventude). Jaume Olle, 26 July 2016

At the 2002 Basketball World Championships (for
men) which took place place in Indianapolis, USA, there were a few fans waving
this flag which I did not recognize. Do you know what flag is this?
I saw these images on ESPN "Sport-Center" news-programme during
the opening match between Angola and Yugoslavia. The images passed so
fast, so it was difficult for me to identify
the correct arrangement of the colours.
There are two possibilities as illustrated above Manuel Gabino, 31 Aug 2002
